The Livermore Police Department is pleased to announce the promotions of Sergeant Ken Gardener to the rank of Lieutenant, Officer Matthew Sarsfield, Officer Kevin Satin, Officer Mike Mayberry and Officer Josh Ratcliffe to the rank of Sergeant.

Sergeant Ken Gardner has been with the Livermore Police Department since 1974 when he was hired on as a Cadet. Sergeant Gardner became an Officer in 1975 and held various positions including Field Training Officer, Field Evidence Technician and a Detective in Criminal Investigations. As a Sergeant, he was a Patrol Supervisor, Narcotics Unit Supervisor, Background Investigator and Communications Center Supervisor. Sergeant Gardner is a life long resident of Livermore, he is married and has three children.

Officer Sarsfield began his career as a Military Police Officer in the United States Army Reserve for six years. He became a Police Officer for the City of Los Angeles in 1993 and was assigned to Patrol, Narcotics, and later to a Detective. He transferred to the San Mateo Police Department in 1998 and became a member of their S.W.A.T. team. After three years with the San Mateo Police Department, he joined the Livermore Police Department and became a Field Training Officer in 2001. Officer Sarsfield resides in Tracy with his wife and two children.

Officer Kevin Santin began his police career in 1988 with the Livermore Police Department where he spent eleven years on the S.W.A.T. team, seven years as a Field Training Officer, and 3 ½ years in Criminal Investigations. Officer Santin has lived in Livermore for twenty years, and has two children.

Officer Mike Mayberry joined the Livermore Police Department in 1995. He presently serves as the Department’s Training Manager. Officer Mayberry is responsible for making sure the Department’s150 sworn and non-sworn employees stay in compliance with state government mandated continuing education. He supervises all of the recruit officers through the 6-month basic police academy program; he has also received specialized training in illicit drug identification and use. He is a Drug Recognition Expert and has specialized training in crime scene analysis and reconstruction. Officer Mayberry is married, has two school age daughters and resides in Ripon.

Officer Josh Ratcliffe started his career with the Livermore Police Department also as a Cadet. He became a Police Officer in January 1996 and has worked Patrol, Special Operations Unit, S.W.A.T and Field Training Officer. Officer Ratcliff lives in Discovery Bay with his wife and two children.

Lieutenant Gardner, Sergeant Sarsfield, Sergeant Santin, Sergeant Mayberry and Sergeant Ratcliffe will take their oath of Office at a formal Promotion Ceremony on August 25, 2003, 9:00 a.m. at the City Council Chambers located at 3575 Pacific Ave, Livermore, Ca
